League Cup Rules

Golfers playing in Halifax, Huddersfield & District Rabbit Golf Association competitions may use Distance Measuring Devices that are limited to providing distance information only, and only on Golf Courses that have a Local Rule allowing them to be used.

1 A league team should consist of 2 teams of 2 players with handicaps between 16 and 28. Each player must have played in a minimum of 3 qualifying competitions in the 12 months immediately prior to the date of the match. For semi finals and final each player must have played a minimum of 2 of the 3 qualifying competitions in the current season.
2. The two teams must be made up with one player in each team having a playing handicap between 20 and 28 Both matches to be played off scratch and shall be deemed completed when a result has been reached ( e.g. 4 and 3 ).
3. The play will be match play. A total of 5 points can be gained per match, and if a penalty operates the match is reduced to 15 holes (see rule 10).
4. 2 points will be awarded for each game won, one point for each half. A further point is awarded to the club with the best aggregate for the two games.
Example - Dewsbury v Elland
Dewsbury 1 win 4 & 3 gain 2 points, Elland win 6 & 5 gain 2 points . Elland have the best aggregate, being 6 to 4 up, and are awarded the bonus point.
RESULT: Dewsbury 2 points, Elland 3 points.
In the result of a tie:- Meltham 2-1, West End 1-2
The points will be shared including the bonus point
Final result Meltham 2 1/2 West End 2 ½
(For the avoidance of doubt – a 2 & 1 win is better than 2 up)
5. It is the responsibility of the club representative of the home club to advise the Competition co-ordinator and webmaster of the result and the score of each match within 48 hours by Email or telephone. Each club must retain the score card, duly signed by both team captains, as a record of the match. The score card will require to be produced in the event of any problems arising. (Copies can be downloaded from the website)
6. Matches must be played within the dates specified on the fixture list and the responsibility for the arrangement of the fixtures lies with the Home Club. Arrangements and dates for all Home Matches must be made as soon as possible after the League list is available, and the representatives of the clubs in the section concerned should be informed of the intended dates. Once agreed the dates become FIXED DATES and can be include in the clubs fixture list. A copy of the fixed dates should be sent to the League Secretary as soon as possible to enable the league fixtures to include dates and representatives. In the event of a match not being played on the fixed date the fixture will be cancelled, and at the discretion of the committee points will awarded according to the circumstances. However if both team leaders agree that the match could not be played due to circumstances out of their control and can re arrange a new date within the original time period allowed for the match to be played then this can be arranged without reference to the Committee.
7. In the event of a club not fulfilling an arranged fixture all points for the match will be awarded to the opposing club plus 6 holes for each match.
8. Promotion and relegation will be on the basis of 2 up and 2 down.
9. A tie for champion promotion or relegation will decide on the resultant total aggregate. In the event of the points and holes aggregate being equal, there will be a one round play off on a course decided by the competition co-ordinator.
10. Fixtures must be played Monday to Friday evenings. Starting times of any games shall be between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m., a penalty of 3 holes will be levied on the offending team arriving on the tee between 6 and 6.30 p.m. and play will be over the first 15 holes. After 6.30 p.m. the match will be forfeited. To be valid, the penalty must be claimed before teeing off at the first hole
11. In the event of a dispute the circumstances must be reported immediately to the opposing club and the competition co-ordinator. A letter setting out the circumstances must also be sent within 7 days of the dispute to the Secretary of the Association for consideration by the Committee. Representatives from disputing clubs may then be invited to put their cases at the next Committee meeting, when the Committee's decision will be final.
12. 3 players can make up two teams to start off at the specified times without penalty. A fourth person arriving late may then join the match, the score at the time to stand for the holes played.
13 In the event of a team being disqualified for any reason whatever, the 2 points plus the bonus point will be awarded to the opposing club and 3 holes up, irrespective of the result of the other teams match.
14. No persons under the age of 18, or less than seven day full playing members, are eligible to play in the League fixtures. (This to be checked by opposing team captains).
15 Full handicap certificates must be produced before commencing play at all times. The certificates should be as up to date as possible, and no older than 2 months prior to the match .If any player fails to produce a Handicap certificate as required they cannot take part in the fixture unless an agreement is reached between the Team Captains on the night.
16 Where a match cannot be completed eg weather or light it can be stopped and rearranged for another date. Both clubs should field the same pairings where possible and resume the game where it was left. All matches should be completed within the original time scale where possible unless prior agreement has been granted by the competition co-ordinator.
17 Where a dispute has been raised then cards must not be signed and the Competition Co-ordinator and the Association Secretary informed asap.
