Mellor Competition Rules


This Competition is a foursomes match play knockout Competition p[layed off yellow markers. It is open to two teams from each club one team playing in each of two sections of the competition.

Each team must consist of two players in the handicap range 16 to 28 ( no less than 15.5)with one in the range 20 to 28 or both players in the handicap range 20 to 28, both being full playing members of the the club and over the age of 18 and have played at least 3 qualifying competitions in the 12 months immediately prior to the 1st of April

NB:Players representing their clubs in the Semi Finals must have played in a minimum of 2 qualifying competitions at their own club after the 1st of April in the current season

Full Handicap certificates must be produced before playing in the competition. Failing to do so will result in the foreiting of the match

The members of the teams can be changed in each round of the competition but a player can only play in one section of the competition.

The competition is match play foursomes played off scratch, to the Rules of Golf, as amended by the local rules of the home course.

Home advantage will be indicated on the draw sheet until the semi final stage. The semi final of section A shall be played on the home course of the first named player of section B's semi final and the semi final of section B shall be played on the course of the first named player of section A's semi final. This arrangement should be agreed by the Club Committees before the club enters the competition and administered by thevarious Rabbit Secretaries at the semi final stage. The final will be played on Finals Day normally held on the Association's Presidents home course .

In the drawn rounds where opponents are known it is the responsibility of both clubs to make contact and they should make every effort to arrange matches. Problems in the organisation of matches should be notified to the section co-ordinator as soon as possible as NO EXTENSION OF THE DUE DATE WILL BE ALLOWED.

Winners must notify the co-ordinator of the result of matches as soon as they have been played. if no result has notified by the due date, the match will be deemed NOT TO HAVE BEEN PLAYED AND BOTH CLUBS WILL BE SCRATCHED FROM THE COMPETITION.

The Club's appointed representative for each team should ensure that the section co-ordinator has their correct telephone number when phoning through their match results. Players should not delay in contacting their opponents.

Any dispute must be referred within 24 hours to the section co-ordinator, who will make his decision , after referring to the committee if necessary. Disputes over the Rules of Golf must be settled in accordance with Rule 3.5. All co-ordinator's decisions are final, and entries are accepted on this proviso.

The dates when each round has to be played and the names and telephone numbers of the section co-ordinators will be included on the draw sheet.

"Players who reach (or play in) the semi finals / final will be required to have played 2 of their 3 qualifying competitions within 2 months of the semi final date. With handicap certificates to verify compliance"

The winners will receive, on behalf of the club the Mellor Cup to be kept by the club for one year and a replica for the retention by the club.
